Please note that this product does not meet the certification standard ECE-R88 and does not support reflective properties as per StVZO (Germany).
The rolling properties of the rubber compound of a tyre are primarily determined by three interacting factors: stiction (grip), rolling resistance, and mileage (longevity). The dilemma is that if you improve any of these factors, it can have a detrimental effect on at least one of the others. A tyre with maximum grip wears quicker and rolls more slowly. If you then make a tyre roll faster and more durable, grip, in turn, is reduced.
With Continental's Black Chili compound, a tread compound which is always based on the latest knowledge of polymers and raw material research, Continental has supplied the cycling industry with an enduring solution. Depending on the application of a tyre, the compound formulation is adjusted for the specific discipline, whether for road or mountain biking, time trialling, or downhill racing. For Black Chili, special synthetic rubbers are refined with proven natural rubber to create high-performance tread mixtures. To these mixtures, soot particles are added, which in turn are optimised in shape and surface properties.
With PolyX Breaker, car expertise comes to the bicycle tyre sector. Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tyres and has proved extremely effective. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswise. A very high fabric density is achieved which makes the breaker resistant not only to foreign bodies, but especially to punctures. The rolling resistance is not affected by this breaker.
